Privacy Policy

How Dawn handles app data, feedback, analytics, purchases, and privacy requests.

Dawn is a daily affirmations app for iOS. It helps you read daily affirmations, save the ones you like, create your own, organize them into collections, and build a simple daily reading habit.

This Privacy Policy explains what information stays on your device, what limited information is sent to the services that run the app, how that information is used, and the choices you have.

1. Introduction

Dawn does not currently require a Dawn account, and it does not currently provide cloud sync. Your core app data is stored locally on your device.

To operate the app, a limited amount of information is processed by analytics, feedback, configuration, onboarding, and purchase services. This policy describes what that involves so you can understand how Dawn works.

2. Information Stored on the Device

Dawn stores your app data locally on your device so it can work without an account. This may include:

  • Liked and saved affirmation states
  • User-created affirmations
  • Collections and their contents
  • Selected affirmation categories
  • Daily affirmation reads
  • Streak and completion history
  • Reminder configuration
  • Theme, background, font, language, and haptic preferences
  • Widget refresh preferences and widget presentation data
  • Onboarding completion state
  • Cached premium entitlement state
  • General app settings

Your user-created affirmations and collections are not uploaded to Dawn’s servers.

Some data is shared with the Dawn Home Screen widget through an iOS App Group so the widget can display your affirmations. This data remains on your device.

3. Information Sent to Service Providers

Feedback and bug reports

If you submit a suggestion or bug report from inside the app, the report is sent to Cloud Firestore. The submitted data may include:

  • The message you enter
  • Feedback type
  • Submission time
  • App version and build number
  • Platform
  • iOS version
  • Device model
  • Device locale

This information is used to investigate the issue, reproduce problems, and improve the app.

Product analytics

Dawn uses PostHog for product analytics to understand how the app is used and where it can be improved. Analytics events may include:

  • App session starts
  • Category selections
  • Theme changes
  • Practice sessions
  • Streak completions
  • Sharing actions
  • Update prompt interactions
  • Feedback submission events
  • Review and rating actions
  • Related app and device technical metadata supplied by the SDK

Dawn does not intentionally include your affirmation text or user-created affirmation content in analytics events.

4. How Information Is Used

Information is used to:

  • Provide daily affirmations and the daily reading experience
  • Save your likes, saved affirmations, collections, and preferences
  • Track daily reading progress and streaks
  • Schedule reminders and update Home Screen widgets
  • Configure feature availability and premium access
  • Receive and review feedback and bug reports
  • Maintain, debug, and improve the app

5. Third-Party Services

Dawn relies on the following services to operate certain features. Each provider processes information according to its own privacy practices.

Firebase

  • Firebase App Check with Apple App Attest, used to help verify app integrity
  • Firebase Remote Config, used for feature availability, category configuration, premium flags, and update requirements
  • Cloud Firestore, used to store submitted feedback and bug reports

Firebase services are provided by Google.

PostHog

PostHog is used for product usage analytics to help improve the app.

Adapty

Adapty supports the purchase experience, including:

  • Onboarding presentation
  • Paywall presentation
  • Purchase and restore handling
  • Premium entitlement verification
  • Related device, product, and purchase identifiers

Apple

Dawn uses Apple services for:

  • App Store purchases
  • Subscription management and refunds
  • Notification permission and local notifications
  • Home Screen widgets
  • The share sheet
  • Saving generated affirmation images to Photos
  • In-app ratings and reviews

Umami

The Dawn website may use Umami for aggregated website usage analytics when configured. This applies to the website only, not the app.

6. Data Sharing and Tracking

  • Personal information is not sold.
  • Dawn does not contain third-party advertising.
  • Data is not used for targeted advertising.
  • Dawn does not intentionally track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
  • Limited data may be processed by the service providers needed to operate the app.
  • Information may be disclosed when legally required or necessary to protect the app.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Local app data remains until you remove it from the device, reset it, or delete it through the controls available in the app.

Uninstalling Dawn removes the Dawn app data stored locally on your device.

Submitted feedback may be retained as needed to investigate issues and improve the product.

You may email support to request deletion of feedback you submitted. There is no account-deletion flow because Dawn does not currently use Dawn accounts.

8. User Choices and Permissions

You can:

  • Turn reminders on or off, and manage notification permission in iOS Settings
  • Control Photos access when saving affirmation images
  • Choose whether to submit feedback or bug reports
  • Delete the app to remove locally stored Dawn app data
  • Contact support to request deletion of feedback you submitted

9. Children’s Privacy

Dawn is not intended for children under 13. Dawn does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child has provided personal information through a feedback or bug report, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed by the app. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure.

11. Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date above.

Continued use of Dawn after changes means you accept the updated policy.
